REMEMBER THE THREE ~Legend of Zelda Musical Tribute~

~THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, IMMORTAL IN VERSE~ A project that's been a year in the making, REMEMBER THE THREE is a testament to both my love of Black music as a holistic entity, and my almost equally intense love of the titular franchise and its role in my musicianship and creativity. Equal parts rock, metal, hip-hop, jazz, shanty tune, Latin, Classical, chiptune, jam session, arrangement, and original work, the medley also represents the trajectory I'm taking for myself as a musician. Sooooo, if you enjoy THIS, you'll definitely enjoy the things, both arranged and original, that I've got coming in the near future. Representing the original game and its sequel, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild, I tried to represent my favorite musical parts of the franchise. I had to be conservative in my choices since, as we know, every game in the series is chock-full of immense musical moments. I'm aware I left about half of the franchise out, but it was important to me to set the music to video, so I unfortunately couldn't include the games I didn't have any means to record footage of. Maybe if this one does well, I could come back and do the others in the future?

THE OPAQUE EAVES - A TEAM REAL NEW ORIGINAL

I've had this melody floating around my manuscripts for a long time. I used it as part of a commission I once wrote for a clarinet ensemble, but other than that, it's actually never been put out in a public forum. Then, while I was going through my files not too long ago, I came across a rendition of this tune I'd done with multiple keyboards one night in late 2019, not long after starting grad school, as well as some videos I'd shot of the performance, clearly intending to post it, so I thought...why not finish the video and do so? In an upcoming record, this tune will probably get a more fully developed version, but for now, enjoy the late-night, pseudo-low-fi vibes of The Opaque Eaves, which isn't really a name that actually means anything. You may notice that not everything playing is reflected in the videos. Unfortunately, I'm somehow missing some footage with this one, so I tried to fill the empty space with fun special effects and stuff. Then again, I filmed and recorded this over two years ago, long before I was used to filming my overdubbed songs, so I hadn't yet developed the pretty rigorous filing system I use now to keep those complex videos straight. TL;DR, some footage is missing.

BACKED INTO A CORNER (From Shovel Knight)

Jake Kaufman is a verifiable genius. If you've seen the first episode of 3 AM Soliloquies, then you've already heard me gush about the soundtrack he wrote for the now-classic indie game Shovel Knight, on which there isn't a single dud. I'm starting up with a new series of projects focused on giving some of my favorite franchises and games lavish musical tributes, with my own jazz, metal, funk, and whatever-else-informed style. So here's my own rendition of "Backed Into A Corner," the theme from the optional "secret" big ghost boss from the haunted mansion level. I always thought this theme was super cool, real bombastic and metal and bluesy. Of course, I don't own Shovel Knight. It's a Yacht Club game, and Jake Kaufman wrote the soundtrack.
